Hello and welcome to the fourth issue of "On the other side." With Bats and Jess

jesseboy000 and I "came up with the idea to create a gallery folder within Progressive-Street

don't expect big criticism on my part.  my English is cockeyed, weird and imaginative ...

and more, as you have discovered in these years of knowledge, I am a person of few words, therefore you have to content yourself ;) (Wink)

Anyway, as always, I tried to create a story with pictures that I chose. Maybe you will see it on the other side.

The Arm by niklin1

The Arm:   I took me a few seconds to figure out where this hand is resting.

The first thing that struck me was the softness of the gesture, the red nails, the folded thumb.

And then the question: where is this woman going? At that moment, I saw the woman coming down in the background

and I understood that we are on an escalator, in a large shopping mall.

but by then I had been on the other side thanks to niklin1

I really love those images that manage to evoke things, and hands always strike me as the legs. . .

so I'll add these two photos here, in black and white, that tell two mysterious stories. . .

Saturday night... by jrockar

Once again, a hand, but this time the gesture is clear (a mouth, the straw)

and the title of the photo Saturday night...is already telling me many things.

But it is the blurred image of another hand and another glass that makes the difference in this photo

and add something to our story and also to the beauty of the composition,

and this is how jrockar takes us the other side

London Street XVI by leingad

When I entered the group "Progressive", first thing they told me is that

a street photograph must always feature human beings.

Of course, that's true. But this does not mean you should not consider the photographs that

by denouncing the absence of a human being, highlights their presence, as London Street XVI

Where did  the owner of the abandoned newspaper go?

With lots of questions leingad leads us to the other side

rain by jrockar

rain is really a poetic image (a magical black and white, an aura of mystery, calm and quickly at the same time) and also mesmerizing.

jrockar is indoors, behind a blurred glass and looking out sees three people who  take shelter from the rain with three magazines.

How come those three people all have a magazine? Are they coming from the same place? And where are they headed to? Maybe to the other side

The Floating World by burningmonk

The Floating World is leading us to the other side right from its very title.

I don't think there's anything to add, this stunning image of burningmonk does not hide anything, you discover all at once:

past traditions and present technologies, the city noise muffled by glasses, the thoughts of the woman who will remain forever a secret.
An image to be awarded.

Ghostly by Earth-Hart

Ghostly by Earth-Hart is an image that transports you immediately to the other side

The blurred head of the old woman is a reflection but is also the main subject of the photo, thus making  the reality outside reflected.

As if the man walking with his hands in his pockets were the past that comes back to the woman.
This shot did not have the success that it deserved, in my opinion. It is really full of meanings.

Big Data (Leica 63) by jesseboy000

Big Data (Leica 63)  might seem like the usual image of reflected life. But it is not.
The characters are all unreal: the mannequin sitting disconsolately, the giant woman and man with glasses are both part of an advertisement.

What's left is the two shadows, men and women, perhaps two employees, and the architectural reality reflected on the glass

through which jesseboy000 observes, letting us imagine that the two shadows are the directors of a story from the other side ...

Maybe it's true, I love too much the reflections!!! :D

Strangers also belongs to the category self portrait, indeed on the left we can see ActiveShooter  in an attempt to grasp the other side depicted into it.

Because that's what makes us understand this photo: the reality in which we live has always other angles, other dimensions.

It's up to us to find them.  Stylistically this photo is perfect: so incredible balanced, with an enviable contrast.

At Work 2016 II by sags

I really like how this photo was cut.  We see the eye of the man looking at the screen

but we don't see the dog's snout that is doing the same thing.  Or maybe not?

What is the dog staring at so carefully?

In At Work 2016 II, I really like the colors, the picture behind that seems to mirror the computer screen in the foreground.

And the fact that you can imagine another world with sags

Thanks for reading and give these artists a comment on their works.

'On The Other Side' by Bats and Jess n.5

Hello and Welcome to another issue of 'On the Other Side' a collaboration between Bats and I.
Batsceba and I came up with the idea to create a gallery folder within Progressive-Street that showcases some of our personal favorites that are street photos a little off-kilter from the usual. As you can see in our header image we give a brief wording of what we look for in these images we choose to add. Of the images we choose, we wanted to share our thoughts of why and how they stand out, why they are a little unique to the more traditional street captures. Why we like them a lot!
Bats and I will be taking turns issuing journals for progressive street choosing a number of deviations from the "On the other side" Gallery to write about.  Now keep in mind I am no great writer and my writings tend to be a bit random and off the top of my head. I simply type off the top of
